Located within city limits, PDX is easy to get to by private car. However, as with any major air facility, traffic and parking may be an issue, especially during rush hour. During major holidays, you may not be able to find a parking spot despite hours of diligent searching. Get eco-conscious and avoid the drive. Instead, take an airport shuttle, which comes in two forms.
1. Shared vans are cheaper because they not only pick you up at your home or business but also look for other travelers at their locations. Allow plenty of time when using shared shuttles.
2. Private shuttles cost more but take as much time as a private car. They pick you up at your location and go directly to your departure terminal without any intervening pickups. This form of transportation can also be cost-effective if you're traveling with a large group or need to take a lot of luggage that will not fit in an ordinary car.

If you're downtown, the quickest and cheapest way to get to and from the airport is through the Red Line of Max Light Rail. You can easily roll your luggage on board and trains run from around 4:45 AM to 11:50 PM from the airport. Small change is recommended because the ticket machines return change in coin.
Taxis are also available, with trips taking about half an hour. At the airport, you'll find them in the lower center section of the airport terminal, right outside baggage claim.
